Darren Hughes' restructured dance event set technical as well as experiential standards when it kicked off the season in May. Working with Chris Deale of SSE Hire, GPA's Jason Bacon brought his Funktion One touring system - consisting of Resolution 9s and 5s - in to three of the eleven arenas, making sure the top DJs and hungry crowds benefited from the best possible sound.

"I use Funktion One because no other products available come close in terms of audio quality," says Bacon. "Funktion One and dance music are a perfect march".

Space - Ibiza

Again working with Darren Hughes in Ibiza, Jason Bacon of GPA supplied a Funktion One system to Space nightclub for Hughes' We Love…Sundays at Space events. Taking over one of the best loved clubs on the island with a roster of credible DJs on the ones and twos, this was a showcase of talent and atmosphere perfectly served by the hired-in system. GPA are currently in talks with Space to supply a Funktion One system to the terrace for next season, which will be roofed over following this year's closing party.

Notting Hill Carnival

A million revellers squeezed through London's streets for this year's Notting Hill Carnival. Europe's biggest street on the international festival calendar, Carnival was established in 1964 and now comprises everything from hip hop to house, steel bands to static sound systems, and two enormous live stages.

Two of those sound systems were supplied by GPA, on behalf of Funktion One: the Sancho Panza 10th birthday party, and Norman Jay's hugely popular Good Times Sound System.

Says Bacon: "It's a family thing - we all go way back. There's no question that I wouldn't use Funktion One at one of these gigs. The promoters and DJs expect nothing less".
